It's the first Pokemon RPG on a home console. Frankly, I'm not impressed. Graphically, they could have made better use of the GC's capabilities, but the new look is still a welcome change from the uniform houses of the GBA iterations. The towns each have their own look and feel, with broken down punk havens and lush, green retirement resorts. However, the battle graphics are frustrating, seeming to be no more than a remake of Pokemon Stadium's animations. I mean, come on people, you could have at least made new animations for the old pokemon! Also, a revamp of the entire battle system would have been a welcome change. Another pissy thing is the requirement of a GBA and link cable to play your friend. Finally, one-on-one battles are, as far as I've played, nonexistent in the single player adventure. On a final note, it's the Gamecube for Christ's sake. It can handle more than one save per memory card. If you're into the franchise, pick it up if for nothing more than the opportunity to get all the Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver Pokemon into your Ruby/Sapphire cartridge. If you're not, this is no reason to get excited.
