I had been wanting to play this game for months on end, and when I finally got a chance to rent it from my local video store, I immediatley popped it into my PS2 and spent a good 4 hours playing through the first part of the game. Now, that I'm done with it, I can truly say I am satisfied, but there are a still a few things that bother me. A big one is the length of the game... The game's graphics are outstanding, they bring a TRUE cinematic feel to the game and backround, the characters facial expressions and movement are quite realistic even in real-time. The character models are highly detailed, and so are the beautiful pre-rendered backrounds. The soundtrack is also pretty good, although there wasn't anything too amazing. There were also times in dramatic scenes where I burst out laughing because of how un-enthusiastic the voice acting was. The game's hack'n'slash gameplay is also a great part of the game, it really never gets boring. There are different weapons to choose from, and different characters you can use temporarily, but they all use the same form of strategy, and in the end, you'll probably will be using the weapon that suits your style preference. The gift-giving system that you use to interact with your friends, is quite boring. You find a gift to give, and in return you will get something back. Depending on what you give will determine how that certain character acts towards you. For example, you can befriend a character or make them your foe. This game's problems reside with it's very short length. It only took me 9 hours to beat the game. Yes, there are a number of extras at the end, and there are also different routes you can unlock in the game. The minigames are pretty cool though, and so is the Onimusha 3 teaser trailer. All in all, this game is a really great rental, I wouldn't suggest buying it though, because of it's length, you can beat this game in a dedicated weekend.
