So about 5 or so years ago Squaresoft came out and told people that they would be making the last Final Fantasy. They showed clips and screens of the game that looked very reminiscent of the original games. Final Fantasy IX went back to it roots and had a more medievil theme. Those sly dogs. Well, a few months before the game's planned release Square comes out again. This time saying that rather than this being the last Final Fantasy ever, it would merely be the last new FF released for Sony's first platform, the Playstation. They built hype for this game and, in my opinion, paid in full. Square took us back to the good 'ol days. This time with FMVs and more witty charming characters ever. For one thing, the game looks good. That is, being a PS1 game. Its nice to be able to play a game that takes away all the gunblades and whatnot. A game that has knights and dragoons. Airships that run on steam. A true fantasy tale. The 9th installment of Square-enix's epic series has it all. The game starts out with a mere taste of the CG scenes to come and lets you jump right in. Though the game follows two characters, the story's main hero is Zidane Tribal. A tail bearing teenager who loves skirt chasing. To most people he seems very simple, but his story is highly complex and turns out to make him much more. The quest begins on the airship of a band of thieves named, Tantaulus. You're mission is to kidnap the princess of Alexandria, one of the three kingdoms. Natuarally this leads to a journey that only the most brilliant of minds could invent. A journey filled with some of the classic characters such as Moogles(which provide the save points, Chocobos(which provides an addictive mini-game), and of course, Cid. Also making another appearence is the card game that was introduced in Final Fantasy VIII. This time under the name 'Tetra Master'. The game build is solid and its not very hard to figure out what you have to do next. Including a soundtrack composed by none other than Nobuo Uematsu. There are 8 different playable characters, all providing both comic relief and incredible parts of the story. All in all the game is awesome. If you can find it, get it. If you can't buy a copy, borrow a friend's.
