Tetris: addictive...to an extent

tetris is a solid, fun puzzle game in whatever form you play it in, whether it be game boy, the highly rare, expensive and very sought after tengen version, on a key chain, cell phone, or free online. it's one of those games that nails "simple to play, hard to master" which has lent to its classic status that it enjoys today.
the problem is that though there is a definite thrill from playing it the first few hours, it DOES get tiring after a while. it is not as addictive as many people would have you believe (certainly not worthy of the number 1 spot it earned on egm's 100th issue), though there a drive to earn the best score possible during the first few hours when you're hooked. but then, you realize, there really is nothing much to the game besides falling blocks that disappear when you line them up correctly. games so simple in design have their limits in fun, and I'm afraid that after a while, its limited gameplay shows through to me.
definitely worth playing, but whether it's a compelling experience for you or not will depend on how much you love puzzle games.
