It's amazing how such a non-advertised game could be so popular. It is a true sleeper hit, it's my favorite classic. I remember so much from my childhood with this game, I just love this game so much. Especially since I just connected with the main character, and his friends, it always made me feel adventurous that I'd want to pack a bag and go on an adventure with my friends. I still play it til today and it's just pure awesomeness. The music rocks, especially for a 16-bit system, and other than rocking, the music just luls me into a nice dreamy state, and I'd try to replay that tune on pianos and such, I loved it so. It's an RPG, but it's so much different than any other RPG, it's definitely not traditional at all, it's weird compared to others, but I wouldn't have it any other way because that's what makes it so great. The story line I just love, it's such an inspirational story line, just the idea that heros can come in small packages, like our 13-year old protagonist Ness who uses a baseball bat as his primary weapon. It just feels so rewarding kicking the boss' ass and reaching the 'Shining Spot' which makes you stronger, heals your health and power, and gives you a dreamy tune at the same time. And when you get really strong, then the enemies flee you instead of running into you, so you can terrorize them, and when you're really strong you don't even have to battle them, they die instantly. That just gives you a good sense of accomplishment. You battle ghosts in a tunnel, fight off hoards of zombies, bat around UFOs, beat the shit out of smelly hippies, meet with bubble monkeys, and get made into androids to kill an all-powerful monster that's been terrorizing the hell out of Earth's people. What else could you ask for in a game? I just love this game, plain and simple, if you see this on eBay, or in a garage sale or something, then GET IT, right away. If you have only 5 dollars and you need to use that 5 dollars to buy your dying grandmother's medicine or else she'll die, but you see the Earthbound cartridge on a garage sale, then forget your grandmother and buy this game, it's that good!
