Blog Post: Will Fallout Fans Fall in Love Again? Subscribe to this RSS feed

Can a top-down PC RPG make the transition to console action epic without dissapointing fans?

Bethesda currently has its hands full stepping out from Elder Scrolls' lush fantasy lands, and into the devastated, nuclear world of Fallout. With Fallout under a new developer, Pete Hines promised CVG that Fallout 3 will incorporate new elements, but still remain true to Fallout:

Oh, so that's why it's called Fallout!

Oh, so that's why it's called Fallout!

"Ultimately, that was our approach, to make to make the kind of choices to make the best Fallout 3 game we thought we could make. To date that's what we've done. We've definitely changed some things, but we feel like we've stayed true to the things about Fallout that make that series memorable - which are the setting, the characters, the tone, the feats, the moral choices, the player choice. The character system is the same, the dialogue system works the same. We didn't want to change the stuff we felt didn't need to be changed."

Under the direction of Bethesda, there are some Fallout fanatics worried about its direction (myself included), but promises of Fallout 3 being true to Fallout can ease some worries. Bethesda is known for their open-RPGs and the Fallout series is just that. The company seemed right for the job to pick up where Black Isle Games left off.

Fallout 3 is schedule for Fall 2008 and announced for the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3.

Hey, thanks: CVG
