Blog Post: Rock Band's Cheap Downloads Cheers Us Up Subscribe to this RSS feed

The price and release date of Rock Band's downloadable content has been revealed. Read on to find out why we're so happy about it.

GameSpot broke the news recently about the initial rollout of Rock Band's downloadable content. Harmonix will have 15 tracks out during launch week, with three tracks coming out each week thereafter. Three packs will sell for $5.49, while singles will sell in amounts varying from $.99 to $2.99. For the most part, this puts Rock Band's tracks at a lower price point than Guitar Hero's content thus far, which has sold for $6.25 in three packs and $1.99 individually.

Personally, I love the pricing structure. Considering how multifaceted a Rock Band track is, I could easily justify spending $5.49 on three songs, even if I'm not entirely familiar with them. 1UP suggested that the cheaper individual tracks could be a way for smaller bands to get their tunes into Rock Band, an idea that I'm utterly in love with, seeing as how the tracks so far fall into two categories; super-popular songs and eclectic Boston-rock. With a steady flow of new tracks and a nice price to boot, I hope this spurns a price war between Rock Band and Guitar Hero, forcing both games to come out with timely, affordable content. If you haven't had a gander at the tracks via the links I've provided, I'll repeat them here and then call it a blog post. Enjoy!

There's plenty of Rock to go around.
