Blog Post: Thank you, good night! Harmonix tackling non-Rock Band project. Subscribe to this RSS feed
Even though it's not out yet, the massive hype encircling Harmonix's Rock Band had the gaming public thinking the company would solely focus on it for quite some time. Alas, it seems Harmonix has different music on its dial.
Before Guitar Hero, Harmonix made awesome games, albiet badly photographed ones
After breaking open the music genre with the Guitar Hero/Rock Band one-two punch, it seems like Harmonix may be returning to its roots with a more simplified music-based game in the near future. Destructoid revealed the company's plans, based on the description of an upcoming session at next year's Game Developer's Conference:
In the writeup for the session titled "Your Music Is the Game: Designing the OTHER Project at Harmonix," it is mentioned that beats would be algorithmically generated, and that this game would lack the dedicated peripherals of other Harmonix titles.
How will the industry's biggest music-game developer follow up the ultimate music title? While the session description is quite vague, it seems like the next Harmonix title will be a massive departure from its titles of late? Will we see something along the lines of FreQuency, or a title that turns the genre on its ear even more? We'll be sure to keep listening for future developments.
Hey, thanks: Destructoid
