If the title doesn't make sense then maybe this will: The winner of X Factor's upcoming Halo 3 tournament wins $250,000 cash.

"You think royalties are enough to pay my insurance? I'm coming for the Grand Prize, man."

The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) and X Factor Tournament have organized, not only the largest Halo 3 tournament ever, but the largest video game competition ever. How, you ask? By depositing a total $1,000,000 into a special bank account for prizes. The Tournament will take place Tuesday, Dec. 18 - Saturday, Dec. 22 in Dallas, Texas at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The grand-prize winner will receive $250,000 cash payout, while the next 63 finishers will be rewarded as follows:

2nd - $170,000.00
3rd - $100,000.00
4th - $75,000.00
5th - $50,000.00
6th - $40,000.00
7th - $30,000.00
8th - $25,000.00
9th - 12th - $15,000.00
13th - 16th - $10,000.00
17th - 32nd - $5,000.00
33rd - 64th - $2,500.00

The competition is open to everyone across the world. To enter, all you have to do is sign up online here and pay the $475 registration fee. If you sign up before noon on November 2nd you will get a discounted fee of $275. Travel and hotel accommodations can be found here.

Here's Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the CPL:

"We invite the community of gamers to join us in this landmark event, which we hope will usher a new era of large-prize open competitions available to gamers of all skill levels, and not just the elite few"

And, Charles Kano, President of X Factor Tournament:

"After months of conversations with the diverse videogame leagues it became very obvious to us that CPL has the experience, knowledge and brand recognition to help accelerate our growth in this new sport. We are excited to commence our CPL relationship with the $1,000,000 Halo 3 competition and we look forward to offering more open tournaments in the months to come."

If you have serious Halo 3 skills then it will be hard to resist this tournament, especially if you live in the general Dallas area. Dallas locals who register at the discounted $275 and place in the top 64 will have their investment nearly multiplied by ten. That's an arrangement not even your financial adviser can argue with.
