Alex Rigopulos, CEO and Founder of Harmonix, muses on the future of his company after Rock Band melts the world's face off.

What next for Harmonix? Cookie-Tin-Banjo-Hero!

It's not even a month away from release of Rock Band and Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos, the creator of both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, already has some interesting ideas to take his projects to the next level. Talking to Next-Gen, Rigopulos lays out some creative ways to expand the already growing music-game genre:

"Content is not the only area in which we want to innovate," he says of Harmonix's efforts. "You'll see a whole host of things in the future. First of all, there are other instruments that we haven't touched yet, there are other music genres. Closer to home with Rock Band, the online dimension of the experience is potentially enormous, and I think we've only begun to scratch the surface."

With the guitar/bass, drums, and vocals all included in Rock Band, what other instruments does Rigopulos and the rest of Harmonix plan to use next? Also instead of providing yearly sequels with just updated songs, Rigopulos also talked about the possibility of freely creating music like in Ubisoft's Jam Sessions.

With so many ideas brewing at Harmonix, Rock Band is starting to seem like a secondary platform for something even bigger.

Hey, Thanks: Next-Gen
