As if you didn't see enough Netflix on your PC and in your mailbox, the online rental firm is set to fill your console's hard drives, and we couldn't be happier!

While I hate giving the local mom 'n pop independent videostore a kick square in the balls, I must say that Netflix is the greatest thing, sliced bread be damned. As a guy who used to horde DVD's, Netflix has saved me hundreds of dollars since I signed up and avoided purchasing plenty of passable flicks.

This past year has been a string of excellent moves from the movie-rental giant. When the company decided to back both next-gen movie formats, the decision to sign up was vindicated even further in my mind. Netflix recently started an online movie-streaming service, which has allowed me to watch plenty of shows without waiting for discs to arrive. Now comes this news, which has me even more giddy. Take it away, Gamasutra!:

Said Netflix president, CEO and Board chairman Reed Hastings as recorded by financial site Seeking Alpha, "In terms of enabling the viewing of online content on the television screen, we are exploring a variety of options, including Internet connected, high definition DVD players, internet connected game consoles, and dedicated internet set tops, with a variety of partners, trying to understand the best ways to provide inexpensive viewing of online content on the television."

I really hope something comes of this. While Xbox Live's Video Marketplace is alluring, the price structure is all wrong, especially for rental-only movies. If the company can work a deal with either Sony or Microsoft to extend the movie-streaming service to one of the consoles, it could have a major effect on the console war. I hope to "Reed" more about this without "Hasting". Okay, I'll stop now.

Hey, thanks: Gamasutra
