Asian Katamari owners are getting charged for content already on the Xbox 360 disc. Could this shady move make its way to the US?
The head is free. The body's gonna cost ya.
In what seems to be strange twist, Beautiful Katamari, a game that that retails at $39.99, is incomplete upon purchased. File Front puts on notice to the fact that paying for downloadable content to unlock what's already on the disc is cheating the gamers:
"Don't go running to your Xbox 360 to grab the new Beautiful Katamari content; unless you live in Asia, you don't have access to this stuff. There are four new levels available for the game, each running you 200 Microsoft Points. I've got no problem with that, but it's more the fact that, according to Destructoid, the downloads are only 384 kb, i.e. the content is already on the disc, and you're purchasing a key to unlock it."
While this situation is currently only in Asia, there is a fear that this situation could spread overseas. The Katamari series have always been low in price, but Destructoid, Kotaku, and several other sites were displeased with this deceitful tactic.
Many sites point out why not already have the content unlocked and add the $5-$10 content to the existing price. It would retain it's lower price point then the current trend of games. With the big boom in downloadable content, lets hope this tactic doesn't become popular with developers.
Hey, thanks: FileFront

I really think the first game was the best in the series. The second one had way to cumbersome an interface for navigating between levels IMHO. I liked that there were more modes, but the King just kept interrupting too often.
