Play video games and you might score a job with the British Intelligence Service.
The Government Communication Headquarters, or GCHQ, a branch of the Brittish Intelligence Service, will start using in-game advertising to recruit potential employees. In-game advertising is not a new idea, it's been happening in games for a long time and with somewhat mixed results. Here's Laura Robertson, GCHQ's account director:
"Although press advertising still plays an important role, it's now just one element of an integrated approach to recruitment that forward thinking clients like GCHQ are spearheading."
There's no word yet as to what positions GCHQ is trying to fill. Maybe they are covertly seeking the next super-spy or just need some warm bodies to push paper. The games slated for this particular brand of advertising include Tom Clancy franchises, Need for Speed Carbon, and Quake Wars. If it turns out to be a success expect to see this type of advertising in games to come.
