Blog Post: Nintendo closes a door, opens a million windows Subscribe to this RSS feed
Smash Bros. Brawl, in all likelihood, is going to slip to 2008 worldwide, but Nintendo has made up for it with a litany of announcements. Read on to find out what has us so darn excited.
So Nintendo knocked one of its most highly-anticipated titles off the holiday roster when the company pushed Super Smash Bros Brawl to early 2008 in Japan, which, in all likelihood means we won't be seeing it under our Christmas trees here in the states either. Fortunately, the company tempered our anger with a slew of amazing new Wii announcements at a press conference in Japan, including:
It's like my 6th grade lunchtable debate come true!
--Sonic the Hedgehog was officially added to the Smash Bros. Brawl roster, making what was once a wishful joke a reality. If any announcement could have directly soothed Brawl fans' woes, it was this one.
--December 1st, 2007 was announced release date for Wii Fit in Japan, which was assumed to be a much later release. As long as the company can keep up on the accessory end, the possibility of a US holiday release is very high.
--The first original downloadable Wii games, called Wii Ware, were displayed. With familiar franchises like Dr. Mario, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon alongside newer IPs like Magnetica, the initial Wii Ware titles have the potential to steal Xbox Live Arcade's thunder in a big way.
That's not a kart. THAT'S NOT A KART!
-- Two new Wii channels are in the works, the long-rumored Mii rating channel, as well as a channel that allows Wii owners to download DS demos without visiting a retail kiosk.
With the ability to meter out announcements at its own pace, without fear of being overshadowed by competing companies, Nintendo's decision to forgo the Tokyo Game Show couldn't have been smarter. It may have wanted to keep the Mario Kart motorbike announcement to itself, though. Now to see what the company has in store for E for All!
Hey, thanks: Joystiq, Destructoid

I wish Nintendo would hurry its arse up and overhaul online into second gear. Vicarious Vision built up a whole entire online system for Guitar Hero 3, and Nintendo is just sitting on the piles and piles of money on their duff.
Wii Ware and downloadable DS games is a nice start though. While they're at it, HULLO, voice chat would be nice. What's the point of Brawl and Battalion Wars 2 if I can't yell at my friends "Stop it, we're on the same team, you...!" Yeah well, it doesn't get pleasant from there. Oh the woes.
I greatly hope for voice chat at E For All. Please, please do something about this big N. I'm sure for all the billions you have earned, you could do something.
Make sure to inquiry about this Rudden! I'm sure you'll be there, right?

Nintendo would be so awesome if it's online network was up to par.

the whole sonic added thing. was good way to keep down on the anger that ssbb fans are going to have over the game itself being delayed. smart way to hold downon the nintendo bashing. use distraction. A++++++ move by them in my book.

I was really looking forward to Brawl on December. Well I always have Manhunt 2, RE: UC and SMG to keep me occupied.
