Blog Post: PGR4's Geometry Wars: Waves--The reviews within reviews Subscribe to this RSS feed
We all knew Project Gotham Racing 4 was going to be fun, but what of the latest evolution of Geometry Wars. We've pieced together all the info we've found embedded within various reviews.
Apparently there's also some nice cars that race or something.
The first reviews for Project Gotham Racing 4 have started rolling in, and we'll deal with the mass consensus via Aggro Aggregation in due time. What I want to deal with now is the customary Geometry Wars minigame that comes with each new PGR release and the coverage of the latest one, Geometry Wars: Waves in PGR4 reviews.
1UP had some glowing praise for the newest iteration at the conclusion of its PGR4 review:
Subtitled "Waves," presumably because it offers up wave after wave after wave of things to blast, all moving in formation. Unlike the full-on Geometry Wars found in PGR3, this is very much a precursor to what we can expect in the future. One life, zillions of things to shoot at, and some truly mind-blowing effects. It almost warrants its own separate writeup, as it provides a very pleasant taste of what we can expect from the franchise going forwarAt the conclusion of IGN UK's review, the game is given a bit of a rougher writeup:
A new rendition does indeed appear via the game's garage, albeit a stripped-down take than seen previously. 'Geometry Wars Waves' blesses the player with a single life, no bombs and a ramped up difficulty curve that increases by the second - although perhaps not the true sequel we so eagerly await, it should still provide ample challenge for fans and experts of Retro Evolved.
So, obviously, it's not quite at the level of the Geometry Wars minigames in PGR2 and 3, but the consensus seems to be that it'll placate fans of the series within a series. My only wish is that the game would get more than a paragraph within two measly reviews. GamePro and GameSpot couldn't even bother with that, apparently. This isn't the Galaga loading screen in Tekken, people. Geometry Wars is serious business, if you haven't heard!
