Blog Post: Smash Bros Brawl Going Online Subscribe to this RSS feed

Yes, it's official but it's not all that it should be...

Today, Smash Bros fans finally get the news they've been waiting for. That's right, Smash Bros Brawl is going online when it drops for the Wii this Winter. The online multiplayer will have two modes: With Friends and With Anyone. In With Friends players can connect via the ever popular friend code system. In this mode the game will keep track of scores and record wins and loses. You can also send messages while fighting by pressing the taunt command. You'll be able to create a total of four messages before the fight begins.

In With Anyone mode players randomly match up and fight. What sucks about this mode is that players will not be able to see each other's names or send messages. Also there will be no record keeping of wins and losses in With Anyone. I'm not sure why Nintendo thought this would be a good idea. Perhaps it will add depth to the With Friends mode and force people to start exchanging friend codes. In any case, Smash Bros DOJO ended the announcement with this statement.

"We're planning a number of services that make use of Wi-Fi, but we'll reveal them gradually with the other modes. Enjoy."

Maybe they are planning something awesome that will make up for the somewhat shallow online experience.

Hey, Thanks: Destructoid.

Nintendo has been watching too much, Dateline: To Catch a Predator." Not everyone who games online is a perv (except college fratboys), or at least a pedophile.
