Blog Post: Blizzard CEO Speaks at GDC in Austin Subscribe to this RSS feed

Mike Morhaime talks about how World of Warcraft changed his company.

"Dammit, I parked my mount in the red."

The GDC in Austin is becoming a massive MMO conference. And as such it seems appropriate that the man in charge of the biggest MMORPG, World of Warcraft, say a word or two. That's right, the CEO of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime took the podium to discuss his company and the massive changes caused by World of Warcraft.

1up posted an article transcribing Morhaime's words. The gist of his speech was that World of Warcraft's tremendous success forced Blizzard to become mostly a service company dedicated to maintaining Warcraft's vast RPG world. He also talks about the difficulty of making a game ready for it's release date. Morhaime states:

"It's in the interest of everyone, even the finance guys, to make sure that a game is ready when it comes out,"

Mike Morhaime's opinion that games need to be truly ready upon release brings this weary GTA IV fan some peace-of-mind.

Hey, Thanks: 1up & Joystiq
