Blog Post: Retro's 'Prime' time is over. What now? Subscribe to this RSS feed

Retro Studious has been synonymous with Metroid's first person series, but the time has come for the two to part ways. What does this mean for Prime and it's producers?

You've come a long way, baby.

You've come a long way, baby.

1UP reported about a video interview on Yahoo Games that unearths a juicy bit of information about the future of the series and it's Prime-ary developer. At the tail end of the interview (2:50 in, Metroid Prime 3 Director Mark Pacini reveals that Retro is "taking a break" the series, choosing to create new products.

So far, the company has only completed the three console and the one portable Prime titles--Retro suffered through a string of cancellations after its inception--so it'll be interesting to see what else the company is capable of creating.

Conversely, it'll be interesting to see what Nintendo has in store for the famous adventure series. While the 2D games have been entertaining, Metroid has made its mark in 3D thanks to Retro. Will the company seek another developer for the franchise, or will it stick to 2D for a little while. It'll be interesting to see where both Retro and Metroid go from here.

Hey, thanks: 1UP

It would be interesting to see a 2D Metroid with the Wii's capabilities or a 3rd person 3D Metroid. Hopefully Retro makes an original FPS for the Wii.
