Blog Post: How to not review BioShock... Subscribe to this RSS feed
We appreciate dissenting opinion, but Maxim's review of BioShock is wrong in so many ways.
With the lowest scores coming in at 9/10, it's safe to say that BioShock has received near-unanimous praise. We did, however, come upon one outlet that disagreed with the majority--Maxim Magazine. In the September 2007 issue of the men's magazine, the game was scored three out of five stars--extrapolated to 60% on the Games.Net scale. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, though, right? Well, Maxim backs up its bold rating with the following review--shown at right. While the magazine has never been a bastion of gaming journalism, the bizarre rating--alongside other questionable reviews like Quake Wars which hasn't been provided for review to most media yet--makes you wonder how much gameplay goes into these one-sentence reviews. Maxim's online division gave the game a good review, so perhaps it's just a very unfortunate typo. Click on the travesty of a review at right to see the entirety of Maxim's magazine's gaming coverage

I can't read the article for some reason. It tells me to enter a password and username oh well. I don't trust non gaming magazines for gaming related news.
