Madden NFL 2008 hits store shelves. Is it worth buying the new version? And on which console is it best played?
Why oh why did I buy a PS3?
Yet another entry into the Madden franchise, and the second to grace our newest console generation, hits with mixed reviews. Madden NFL '08 seems to improve upon '07 but still falls short in many of the same areas. There's still no online mode - something fans have been drooling for since, well, the internet was invented. And there's no consistency across platforms with the PS3 version running half as many frames per second as the X360 version.
Here's what IGN has to say about Madden '08 on the PS3:
"Madden NFL 08 on PS3 is no a great game. It is a shadow of its cousin on 360. Though the feature set is identical, the drop to an unstable 30fps hurts considerably."
But what about the Wii version? Often, games with less-than-stellar showings on other platforms are stronger on the Wii due to Wii specific extras.
IGN comments on Madden '08 for the Wii:
"Madden 08 offers more, but sacrifices polish along the way. Overall it's a better package than 07, as it has more to do, far more depth, vastly superior multiplayer both online and locally, and a new way to play in family mode. For core football fans, however, you'll find a stronger game of pure football in Madden 08 for 360, as it's one of the best Maddens in years."
Scores were more or less the same across the board. Except at Yahoo games, where Madden NFL '08 received a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
"With Madden 08, EA Sports finally got it right. Players move how you want them to move, teams mimic their real-life tendencies, the view from the gridiron is gorgeous, and playing with friends is simply addicting. While the game does have some minor hiccups, Madden 08 is without a doubt the best football game to be released in several years and is a must-have for any red-blooded football fan."

I don't think i've said this enough i hate madden. I play games to do things i can't do in real life. Something just out of this world, and football isn't one of them. Hell i have a football sitting on the basketball rack in my room. If i wanted to play i would just grab that and go outside. Also i played madden about 5 years back, i was playing whit the Packers * yeah* and on the second play Brett Farve broke his toe.

I second LMG's comment. Why buy a $60 rehash when you can just grab a football and play outside for free? I played one of the Maddens before and it totally sucked. I never really had much love for virtual football anyways.

Haha. I'm in the same boat. I've never been able to get into a football game and I doubt I ever will.
