Blog Post: Starcraft Ghost is fading, doctor... Subscribe to this RSS feed
Hey, remember that "other" StarCraft game Blizzard was working on for years? One of the company's higher-ups commented on what has become of StarCraft Ghost.
Blizzard's Rob Pardo talked to Next-Gen from the Hollywood and Games Summit about MMO's and StarCraft: Ghost. Here's what Pardo had to say about Ghost:
"Our most recent one was Starcraft Ghost. With that game we were very stubborn. I still believe in that game and the characters but we were not able to execute at the level we wanted to...Rather than work on that we had to focus on our other games. We're hoping one day to return to it."
The release of Ghost is always right around the corner, isn't it?
I guess the key word is "hope". Blizzard is known for the "excellence in quality" of their games and numerous delays to make the game perfect. Blizzard and company are a very meticulous bunch when producing games.
While after years of StarCraft's release, fans hoped and prayed for a sequel. In 2002, what we got instead was StarCraft: Ghost. Many loyal fans cheered in excitement because it was something StarCraft related. After time, delays, switched developers, and more delays is what we got from Blizzard. It was announced for all three consoles, but the Gamecube version was killed.
Still, loyal fans expected it since that is what Blizzard is known for. Five years after it was announced, Blizzard maintained it's position until the new generation of console arrived onto the scene and Blizzard 'indefinitely postponed' StarCraft: Ghost.
Some of the loyal fans turned on Blizzard and now hope for StarCraft II. Some even turned away before it was canned due to numerous delays. So now Blizzard "hopes" to revisit StarCraft: Ghost one day. It not unlikely that Blizzard may decide to one day pick up StarCraft: Ghost as it was a unique project. But it suffered from a love-hate relationship with its fans and yet they still remained loyal.
Now that Blizzard fans get StarCraft II, Ghost now seems like a distant memory long ago. I wouldn't put anything past it even if Blizzard are secretly developing Ghost as we speak since StarCraft II has been in development for a while now. Blizzard has always been secretive and tight lipped on everything, but could Nova see the light of day? Only Blizzard knows...
Hey, thanks:
Next-Gen

Personally, I think they should kill whatever is left of Ghost and re-scrap it to tie it into StarCraft II. Ghost was a great idea, but it came out horrible. Switched developers, and delays after delays for nearly 4 years, people just became fed up. Just focus on StarCraft II. Way into the future, then maybe a World of StarCraft or Ghost.

Yeah I agree. I remember starcraft ghost was just something to give me peace of mind while I lay at night dreaming of Starcraft II. Now that Starcraft II is coming out I could care less about ghost.
