Net Ten: Top Ten Tough Gaming Choices (page2) Subscribe to this RSS feed

#5 Squirtle, Charmander, or Bulbasaur? - [ GBA ]

A lot of us were talked into buying one of the original Pokemon games by a friend who chose Squirtle but wanted a Charmander. You see, the one you picked was the only one of the three you'd have access to during your quest, lest you choose to trade with a friend. In a way, it was a lot like Sophie's Choice. She had to choose between a Water, Fire or Plant monster, right?

#4 KOTOR: Light Side or Dark Side? - [ Xbox ]

Througout the Knights of the Old Republic games, your character was continually presented with decisions that would align your character with the Light Side or Dark Side of The Force, gaining him or her some cool powers along with it. The choices were usually simple--I don't think you need Obi-Wan Kenobi to tell you whether to give a man medicine or kill him and take all his money--but it was pretty cool to finally make the choice for yourself, since there was ultimately one decision at the end of the game that would make the final determination.

#3 Metal Gear Solid: Submit or resist torture? - [ GameCube ]

Making the Decision between saving Meryl's life or giving into Revolver Ocelot's dubious torture wasn't really all that difficult on the surface, since it's assumed that Otacon lived after the "Meryl" ending, too. The fact that giving in gave the much better item after the end of the game (Otacon's stealth camo) made the choice a tough one. A more upbeat ending, or a sweet accessory for the next playthrough?

#2 BioShock: Harvest or save Little Sisters? - [ Xbox 360 ]

In BioShock, ADAM is your lifeblood, and the Little Sisters are carrying it. If you manage to fell a Big Daddy (good luck, pal), you have the option of harvesting or saving the innocent, childlike carriers. Harvesting, to put it bluntly, meant you would kill the small girl and take the ADAM stored in her body, while the more humane option saved the Little Sisters and netted you approximately half the amount. Of course, there were other benefits to saving them that became more apparent in the long run, but when you were in need of more ADAM right away, the temptation to put your life before hers was a bit stronger.

#1 Buy an Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis? - [ Genesis ]

During the 16-bit era most gamers were at the age at which their gaming budget was run by their parents. Owning a Genesis AND a Super Nintendo was completely unheard of and deciding between the two often meant cutting your cache of friends in half. Many a fanboy declared their allegiance with this one choice.
