Net Ten: Ten Games With Sizzling Cinematics (page2) Subscribe to this RSS feed

#5 Resident Evil 4 - [ PS2 ]

Unlike Metal Gear Solid 3, it's crucially important to stay awake during Resident Evil 4's cut scenes. Ignore the wrong cinema and you might find yourself decapitated by a chainsaw-wielding maniac or sliced to ribbons by a biomechanically enhanced supersoldier. The button-mashing segments help keep the tension high, even when the game limps through interminable stretches of dull dialogue.

Key Scene: We'll never forget that classic scene in which Krauser and Leon hold a little chit-chat...with pointy knives.

#4 World of Warcraft - [ PC ]

The intro to World of Warcraft shows Blizzard at the peak of its moviemaking game. As a scantily-clad Night Elf pitter-patters through the forest and the Burning Legion pelt the earth like gigantic green asteroids, you'll soil your pants in awe. Sadly, the in-game visuals take a sharp drop in quality, leading us to believe that Blizzard blew its budget on the cinemas.

Key Scene: A furious 500-pound Orc slams his brutish club into the ground as the camera backs away like a frightened kitten.

#3 Final Fantasy VIII - [ Playstation ]

What self-respecting Final Fantasy game would ever skimp on its opening cinematic? Final Fantasy VIII's opening movie still ranks as one of the most lavish, lush, and all-around memorable cinemas in Final Fantasy history. The duel between Squall and Seifer takes on a new dimension thanks to the game's signature Gunblades, while nubile babe Rinoa swirls seductively in a flurry of flowers. Pure Square.

Key Scene: Squall and Seifer's spectacular sword fight leaves our lonely hero as a bloody mess.

#2 Dead or Alive 4 - [ Xbox 360 ]

For the first time in gaming history, the thin line between reality and computer graphics has vanished. Mostly. We're willing to bet that you won't be able to distinguish between gameplay and CG after seeing Dead or Alive 4's pixel-perfect cinemas. As a bonus, check out our extensive collection of DOA girl-on-girl action in Games.net's Hi-Five video feature.

Key Scene: Beating the game with any character unlocks their special cut-scene. Christie's five-star spanktacular striptease captured out hearts...and our libidos.

#1 God of War - [ PS2 ]

God of War might have been a critical darling, but fans know that it's the head-smashing violence, blood-gushing combat, and topless chicks that really made it a classic. The cinemas in God of War tell the emotional tale of a man torn between his family and his own ruthless past. Killer production values, nuanced voice acting, and a gripping storyline add up to make God of War the king of game cinematics.

Key Scene: The blood-soaked battle scenes are unbelievably violent, both in the game and in the cinemas. The amount of gore in these sequences would make even Cabin Fever director Eli Roth blush.
