Net Ten: Ten Crucial Games That Will Define Next-Gen (page2) Subscribe to this RSS feed

#5 Devil May Cry 4 - [ PS3 ]

The PS2-exclusive Devil May Cry 3 was a huge hit for Capcom, and it stands to reason that Devil May Cry 4 will build on that hype. During the E3 unveiling of the PS3, Devil May Cry 4 was one of the key games announced for the PS3. But will Dante make the jump to the Xbox 360 or Revolution? It could happen, but the Devil May Cry games have all been exclusive to PlayStation consoles...even Dante's Viewtiful Joe appearance was only on the PS2.

PlayStation 3: Definitely
Xbox 360: Doubtful (But with RE 5 on the Xbox 360, anything's possible)
Revolution: Unknown

Key question: Will Dante still look like a metrosexual?

#4 Grand Theft Auto 4 - [ PS3 ]

There's still no official announcement, but it's the question of every gamer's lips. "What's up with Grand Theft Auto 4?" Rockstar isn't sharing, but we know that the game will definitely hit the PlayStation 3. An Xbox 360 port is a no-brainer, but unless Microsoft pulls some crazy back room negotiating, it's almost certain that GTA 4 will land on the PS3 first. But the real question is: will THQ's Saint's Row quench the thirst of GTA fans first?

PlayStation 3: Definitely
Xbox 360: Almost certainly (but Sony will likely get it first)
Revolution: Almost definitely not

Key question: Are gamers growing tired of GTA-ized ghetto shootouts?

#3 Halo 3 - [ Xbox 360 ]

With a high-profile movie and an Xbox 360-only sequel on the way, the Master Chief is sitting pretty these days. Heck, the world of Halo is even making its way into Dead or Alive 4, with a special Spartan character prepared to duke it out. But, like any greedy child, Microsoft isn't likely to relinquish the rights to its incredibly popular franchise unless it happens to appear on the new console.

Xbox 360: Definitely
PlayStation 3: Definitely not (Microsoft owns Bungie)
Revolution: Definitely not (Mario doesn't approve)

Key question: Can Bungie walk the tightrope between hardcore and mass-market once again?

#2 Too Human - [ Xbox 360 ]

Silicon Knights' Too Human has been whispered about for years and thanks to X05, we can now finally say that it's headed to the Xbox 360. So far the stellar visuals and intense sci-fi storyline seem to be shaping up quite well. But, given SK's past Nintendo-friendly relationship, could the title eventually end up on the Revolution? Also, what about the PS3? Surely Sony's sexy console could handle the graphical load of the game, right?

Xbox 360: Definitely
PlayStation 3: More than likely not, since the title has been touted as an Xbox 360 exclusive
Revolution: See above

Key question: Should trilogies stick to the big screen?

#1 Gears of War - [ Xbox 360 ]

Epic Games' has been touting their upcoming third-person shooter for some time now, and with each demo we see, the more excited we get. It's just too bad that the game won't be out until 2006. But, even though the game is currently a 360 exclusive, once the rest of the consoles hit the market, we can imagine Epic changing their tune in terms of getting the title on as many systems as possible.

Xbox 360: Definitely
PlayStation 3: Currently no, but Sony's big bags of money could potentially change that
Revolution: More likely not, given Nintendo's "family-friendly" nature

Key Question: Can Epic pull through with a new and addictive IP?
