#5 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - [ Playstation ]

It's the greatest Castlevania game of them all. Period. Why fool with clumsy 3D cameras and obnoxious controls when you can have true 2D bliss? As a side note, SOTN has one of the best game soundtracks EVER. Seriously.

#4 Half-Life 2 - [ PC ]

Cutting-edge 3d technology and an engaging story line collide in this awesome FPS game. Okay, okay--so it's not quite as enjoyable as the first Half-Life. Its gets a bit repetitive towards the end, and it's relentlessly linear. So what? Pick up the Gold package off Steam for a few extra bucks, and you'll own both games. Not bad, eh?

#3 GoldenEye 007 - [ N64 ]

The ultimate console first-person shooter, this classic party game was the first notable console FPS to support four-player split-screen deathmatches. This was Nintendo's salvation during the Nintendo 64's troubled US launch, even considering the game's numerous development delays. It's still fun even today. Games like Halo 2 are direct descendents of this masterpiece.

#2 Earthworm Jim - [ Genesis ]

The first is still best; despite forays into 3D, Earthworm Jim's home will always be on the Genesis. Dig those stylish visuals! As a side note, the funky tunes arecourtesy of Tommy Talarico, a close relative of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler...but don't worry, you won't be subjected to I Don't Want To Miss A Thing.

#1 Metal Gear Solid - [ Playstation ]

Few believed that stealth-based game could be so captivating. Now Metal Gear Solid is the benchmark for the entire genre. Splinter Cell wouldn't exist without this game.
