Net Ten: Ten Fine Next-Gen Firearms (page 1) Subscribe to this RSS feed

With the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii offering new levels of immersion via high-def visuals and motion-sensitive controls, gamers can embark on amazing new adventures in gorgeous interactive environments. Also, the guns look freakin' fantastic now. Here's a list of the top ten firearms that will provide the real memories of this console generation.

#10 Mega Buster- Dead Rising - [ Xbox 360 ]

Even though Frank West can make a weapon out of anything in Dead Rising, the guns aren't quite as awe-inspiring when you've got lawn mowers, sledgehammers, chainsaws, and katanas at your disposal. There is one firearm that manages to impress, however, but it ain't easy to get. There are two versions of the Mega Buster (Capcom stablemate Mega Man's weapon of choice) available in the zombie-infested mall. The first is a chintzy ping-pong ball shooter available in the toy store. The other requires you kill 53,594 zombies in one playthrough. Once you do, however, you get an awesome arm-cannon that obliterates just about every zombie and boss in one shot. Best of all, you can unlock Mega Man's bright blue armor to match the gun!

#9 Bow- Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - [ Wii ]

Okay, so none of us expected to see a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher in the latest Zelda iteration. On the other hand, we expected at least one of the Wii's debut shooters to deliver, but we ended up disappointed by craptastic titles like Red Steel and Call of Duty 3. By default, the Wii's defining firearm is the bow and arrow in Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. While it may lack any suitable competitor, this iconic weapon updated with motion-sensitive controls (and upgraded with a bomb for explosive effects) is still a weapon Wii owners will treasure.

#8 Rainbow Six: Vegas- MP7 submachine gun - [ Xbox 360 ]

In Vegas, this lucky number 7 will make you a winner every time. It may take three multiplayer rank upgrades to acquire, but the MP7 is the ultimate in tactical assault. The MP7 is the game's most spacious machinegun, holding 41 rounds per clip. Add to that the attachment area for accessories like laser sight, and tearing opponents to shreds has never been easier. It may not have the new features and fancy finish of a next-gen gun, but the excellent combination of speed and power of the MP7 makes it a gun well worth working for. It's the gaming equivalent of the Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle.

#7 Stungun- Condemned: Criminal Origins - [ Xbox 360 ]

What Condemned's Stungun lacks in power and originality, it makes up for in sheer brutality. Used to incapacitate enemies before bludgeoning them with a blunt object or blasting them with a firearm, the Stungun is easily the most necessary weapon in this overlooked survival horror title. With a psychopath waiting around every corner, the Stungun comes in quite handy, and the crackling sound of electricity against human flesh is like the appetizer to a delicious beatdown meal.

#6 Immolating Blast- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - [ Xbox 360 ]

One of the most potent fire spells available in Oblivion, Immolating Blast is every bit as awesome as it sounds. The gigantic fireball may not be new in gaming, but it has never looked as good as it has in the world of Tamriel. Mario, a new standard has been set.
