Net Ten: Top Ten Games Lost in the Holiday Shuffle this Year (page 1) Subscribe to this RSS feed

With hundreds of games releasing during the holiday season, there's always a few games that fall through the cracks. Here's some would-be hits that picked the wrong time to come out.

#10 F.E.A.R. - [ Xbox 360 ]

The Xbox 360 is overrun with top-tier first person shooters this holiday season, but not all of them can capture the attention of the gaming public. Even though F.E.A.R. is every bit as good as the likes of Rainbow Six: Vegas, Call of Duty 3, and Gears of War (well, maybe not that one), the fact that it's based on a year-old PC title will likely keep most FPS fans at bay.

#9 Cooking Mama - [ DS ]

Cooking Mama should be in the same "quirky and inventive DS game" pantheon with the likes of Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright, but it isn't garnering the same amount of fan support as those games. The budget price and lack of a storyline seem to be the mitigating factors in this case, so hopefully the upcoming Wii Cooking Mama title will flesh out the game a little.

#8 Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 - [ Xbox 360 ]

Judging by the reviews that have rolled in for this game thus far, it might be good that this one has fallen under the radar. Color us shocked that it has, however. A game featuring scads of scantily-clad ladies going unnoticed? Is Jack Thompson on vacation? With a lot of high-profile Xbox 360 games on the market right now, DOAX2 just came out at the worst time possible.

#7 Gitaroo Man Lives! - [ PSP ]

When Gitaroo Man first came out for the PS2 a few years ago, it went unnoticed by a gaming public that hadn't had an ear for music games just yet. Now that gamers are open to rocking out, Gitaroo Man Lives seems to be destined to suffer in the shadow of "that other guitar game". Expect this one to be in just as short a supply as its PS2 twin.

#6 Final Fantasy V - [ GBA ]

If a Final Fantasy game manages to go ignored, then you've got a pretty solid holiday slate. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy V has many reasons to be overlooked by fans. Square Enix released the game alongside two more higher-profile Final Fantasy games (XII for the PS2 and III for the DS), and it could easily get lost among the licensed cartoon clutter coming out for the GBA this holiday season.
