#10 The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge - [ PS2 ]

OK, this game isn't technically scary. Actually, from what we've heard about it, it may be "scary" in a "this game sucks sort of way." In the spirit of Halloween, we couldn't leave off The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge, if solely because it has a Halloween theme. Now that I think about it, this game may be terrifying after all.

#9 Clock Tower - [ PS2 ]

You learn early on that it's not safe to run with scissors. But I don't think they teach kids about being chased by a madman wielding a gigantic pair of blood-stained scissors. So goes the premise of Clock Tower, a violent and disturbing PlayStation game that had gamers running and hiding for their lives. While archaic by today's standards, for its time Clock Tower managed to exude a great feeling of tension and anxiety...something that even today's games have a hard time pulling off.

#8 The Blackstone Chronicles - [ GameCube ]

Let's take a trip back in time to an early PC game by the name of The Blackstone Chronicles. Based on the works of John Saul, the game had you trying to rescue your son in a mental hospital-turned-museum, all while being chided by the spirit of your deceased father. Sounds trippy, doesn't it? Thanks to its ghostly characters and foreboding tone, The Blackstone Chronicles helped change the way point and click adventure games were played. We were just disappointed that it wasn't actually a game about old school magician Harry Blackstone, Jr. That dude was amazing!

#7 F.E.A.R. - [ PC ]

While F.E.A.R. may mostly be about blowing stuff up and plugging enemies with a myriad of awesome weapons, it's also about delving into the scary world of the supernatural. And what's more frightening than ghostly images of spooky little Japanese girls? Nothing! In fact, F.E.A.R. is bound to make you drop a load in your trousers thanks to two features: incredible action and some truly disturbing paranormal encounters.

#6 Alone In the Dark - [ Playstation ]

When a game starts off with a mysterious suicide and a creepy Louisiana mansion, you just know that things are doomed to go downhill from there. While it may have looked uglier than your last prom date, it went on to become a major influence in the survival-horror genre.
