Net Ten: The Coolest Modern Video-Game Characters (page 1) Subscribe to this RSS feed

I could be a video game character, what with my hedgehog-like scalp and Mario-like physique. Yet if I were, there's no way I would be anywhere near as cool as the ten coolest video game characters listed here. Check this out.

#10 Tommy Vercetti - [ PS2 ]

Acid-washed jeans and a jaunty Hawaiian shirt never looked so cool. Talk about a killer outfit! As an added "cool" bonus, Ray Liotta provides Tommy's voice--you do know he starred in Goodfellas, right? You have seen Goodfellas, haven't you?

#9 Shao Kahn - [ SNES ]

Shao Kahn's mocking laughter ("Mwa-hahah!") and relentless taunts ("Don't make me laugh!") would leave Darth Vader himself quaking in his satin-lined space boots. Then Kahn would smash him in the face with that big-ass hammer, devour his soul, and rule the universe forever. "Feel the power of Shao Kahn," indeed.

#8 Duke Nukem - [ PC ]

This 'roid-pumped super jock lampooned every gaming convention, then succumbed to a few of his own (Duke Nukem taking Forever, tee-hee). The Duke is known for his killer one-liners; some were inventive ("You're an inspiration for birth control!"), others were derivative ("Who wants some?"), but all were hilarious and cool. Our all-time favorite Duke quote? "Your face, your ass, what's the difference?"

#7 PaRappa - [ Playstation ]

Because you gotta believe! And because you just can't resist a rapping dog wearing a cute little hat. But after a lackluster PS2 showing, Parappa mysteriously vanished from the scene. We picture him huddled in some garbage-strewn alley, sucking down highballs and beers. But then again, we've got over-active imaginations.

#6 Alucard - [ Playstation ]

The best Castlevania protagonist ever, this spawn of Dracula favored sharp-ass swords of sissy whips and chains. Okay, okay, so he features are strikingly feminine--he is after all a vampire, the most decadant and swishy of all the monster types. You won't think he's so girly when he's draining your blood through your face.
