Net Ten: Ten Modern Classics Every Gamer Should Own (page 1) Subscribe to this RSS feed

What, you don't own these? And you call yourself a gamer? For shame!

#10 Diablo II - [ PC ]

Hardcore, hack-n-slash RPGs have never been so fiendishly addictive. It's been out for seven years, but that hasn't affected its popularity in the slightest, as it's still one of the most-played games on the Internet. Speaking of which, my Frenzy/Double Swing/War Cry Barbarian can kick your Sorceress's ass any time.

#9 The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - [ GameCube ]

This anime-styled Zelda title boasts an utterly unique look, to the anger of some purists. But guess what? The cutesy lookworks wonderfully. The good news is that Nintendo's working on a more realistic-themed follow-up, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, for the Gamecube. Booyah!

#8 Sonic the Hedgehog - [ Genesis ]

Where's Mario? Who cares--Sonic was always the better game. Between the ridiculous sense of speed and the endless secret areas (did you pick up Sonic & Knuckles to open them all up?), the first two Sonic titles are legendary for a good reason. After Sonic 2, the series really went downhill and forgot its roots. Hopefully, you never had the misfortune of playing Knuckles Chaotix on the 32X. Shudder.

#7 Resident Evil - [ GameCube ]

The original certainly had its scary moments, but the GameCube remake is a true tour-de- force. You can zap zombies with cattle prods, plunge daggers into their eye sockets, and stick grenades in their gaping maws. How can you go wrong with that?

#6 Halo 2 - [ Xbox ]

The introduction of the trigger-happy Master Chief single-handedly lent the Xbox system credibility, but it was the sequel that made the formula shine. Halo 2 is a must-have for any self-respecting FPS fan. You think PC FPSes are automatically better? You're dead wrong.
