Net Ten: Games To Play When You're Stoned (page 1) Subscribe to this RSS feed

When you want to just chill without ducking bullets, here are the best games to play while under the influence. Get toked and get stoked.

#10 PaRappa the Rappa - [ Playstation ]

Parappa is one cool little dude, and this beat-matching game is catchy. Of course, anything that mixes music with buttons is pretty much an automatic stoner classic, and Parappa the Rapper was a pioneer in the field.(Frequency and its sequel, Amplitude, didn't make it in because they are too damn hard, even sober.) Created by musician and hipster gamemaker Matsuura Masaya (who probably is not averse to puffing now and then), Parappa is fun in all states of mind.

#9 Fantavision - [ PS2 ]

Gamespot called it "an oddly soothing game experience." There's no easy way to describe this fireworks-puzzle game. What takes it from odd to awesome is its low learning curve (important for those of slightly impaired hand-eye co-ordination) and the spectacle of sprays of color blooming on the screen. Ooh... pretty....

#8 SSX Tricky - [ GameCube ]

You know how some folks like to smoke a bowl before they hit the Sugar Bowl? Why drive all the way to the mountains when you can just swish in your sweats with a handy pack of chips nearby to stave off the munchies? Turn off the horrible music in the options menu, turn up the sound effects, and just freestyle down the absolutely gorgeous mountains. It's the closest you can get to flying without leaving the couch.

#7 Viewtiful Joe - [ GameCube ]

Possibly the trippiest action game ever. Don't worry, the "story" doesn't really matter--except insofar as it channels midcentury Japanese superhero characters. It's like a cultural time warp, but blindingly fast with completely psychedelic visual effects. The music is in a class of its own, and the voice acting will have your sides aching with laughter.

#6 Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus - [ PS2 ]

Two things make Sly a great stoner game: it's a cakewalk to play, first of all. Secondly, it features tons of minigame possibilities that will have you in a constant state of "Whoa..." Plus, the art, which is high-quality cartoony with great cel-shading, is pretty cool to just sit and watch. You'll get a kick out of just the cutscenes--like watching cartoons on a Saturday morning. Good times, my friends, good times.
