Feature: Winners & Losers Subscribe to this RSS feed
Each week, we present the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the gaming universe. This time:
The Winners--GameFly and Ubisoft
The Losers--Sony PSP and Resident Evil Movies
Like you, we browse scores of gaming-related stories every day. Some of them get our head nodding. Others get our blood boiling. Consequently, we decided to share those experiences with you, given that the Games.net mission of bringing you the very best and worst the gaming universe has to offer. Every Thursday, our hackneyed crew of web monkeys will mete out the sordid stories that made us laugh, cry, and blow snot bubbles in agony.
Our criteria for a winner: lasting effects of intellectual engagement, profound thoughtfulness, and funky humor. Everyone else: a loser. And then there's the pwned, which is another story entirely.
And now on with the W&L!
THE WINNERS
GameFly Prepares For PS3 and Wii Titles
Although Sony PlayStation 3 preorders are unavailable and the release of the Nintendo Wii is still unannounced, GameFly is offering over 25 titles for each next-gen console that will be available to rent. The good news: Eventually theses games will be available to rent via GameFly. The bad news: You wish they were available now.
World of Warcraft Rogue Review
Possibly saving the best for last, the Rogue review is well underway. Rolling with the Rogue class myself, this is very exciting times for all of us stealth-based killers. The Subtlety Talent Tree is getting a lot of love and many talents are being combined, which opens up many free talent points to be spent elsewhere. Yay!
Ubisoft President: PS3 Price Must Drop in 2007
Brave Yves Guillemot just says what everyone is thinking. However, coming from a big name developer for Sony's next-gen console carries a bit more weight than the average gamer. But, regardless of who said it, the argument of the price point being too high is valid and we can only hope Sony is listening.
THE LOSERS
Sony PSP Ad Strikes Racial Tone
Controversy is nothing new regarding the Sony PSP's marketing strategies. Who could forget the graffiti-vandalism spread throughout major cities early this year? These ads are just inappropriate and unnecessary. There has got to be countless other creative ways to market the Sony PSP White, and this is not one of them.
The Resident Evil movies were far from great, but definitely better than the craptacular rolls of film Uwe Boll considers to be full-length feature movies. And now a third, said to be the final of the trilogy. Thank goodness.
THE PWNED
Guilty by association, NCSoft senior executives were supposedly aware of the theft of 280,000 identities used to create fake Lineage accounts and did nothing in fear of the company's diminishing sales. We understand, it must be hard living in the shadow of the world's most popular MMO World of Warcraft.
