Feature: Winners & Losers Subscribe to this RSS feed
Each week, we present the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the gaming universe. This time:
The Winners--John Romero and track7games
The Losers--Major Nelson and NCSoft
Like you, we browse scores of gaming-related stories every day. Some of them get our head nodding. Others get our blood boiling. Consequently, we decided to share those experiences with you, given that the Games.net mission of bringing you the very best and worst the gaming universe has to offer. Every Thursday, our hackneyed crew of web monkeys will mete out the sordid stories that made us laugh, cry, and blow snot bubbles in agony.
Our criteria for a winner: lasting effects of intellectual engagement, profound thoughtfulness, and funky humor. Everyone else: a loser. And then there's the pwned, which is another story entirely.
And now on with the W&L!
THE WINNERS
Look at that hair
John Romero is "Crazy Stealth"
With the downfall of Ion Storm, John Romero was the biggest loser in the eyes of gamers, but he's on the upswing with an MMOG for the PC. Even with the looming hatred and sour aftertaste of Daikatana, Romero still has the tenacity to make you his bitch, this time for real.
You won't find me on PS3
track7games Dismisses PS3 Development
Developers of the next-gen title Theseis, track7games will not be developing for the PS3 because they "simply made a strategic decision to not move ahead because we deemed it not probable at this time." Sony can stick that expensive piece of hardware up its [insert orifice here].
THE LOSERS
SuperNerd
Kryptonite Couldn't Keep Superman From WoW
As if wearing your tighty whities for the world to see wasn't nerdy enough, Superman actor Brandon Routh has come out about his love of World of Warcraft. NCSoft must be offended to hear the greatest superhero of all time doesn't play City of Heroes, the greatest superhero game of all time.
Vroom!
NCSoft T-Boned by Auto Assault
According to NCSoft the 70 layoffs in Austin, Texas were not because of faltering subscribers to the recently released MMOG Auto Assault. "No doubt, Auto Assault is still finding its audience," said NCSoft spokeswoman Janna Bureson. You're right, but Mad Max is so 1979.
THE PWNED
Eat this Major
Coming off more like an asshole than providing relief for anxious gamers, Major Nelson has something to say about Xbox Live game delays. Yes, we have all seen delays on major titles before, but the release date of a demo has never been a problem. The demo, which players use as a tool in the deciding factor of whether or not they will purchase a retail copy of such game, was to be released last week and is still no where to be seen. Hopefully all that hard, tedious work you have to do involves getting a Prey demo into the hands of gamers -- and soon.
