Could this leaked Halo 3 screen be the real deal, or just another example of fancy Photoshop work and wishful thinking?

In late 2005, bloggers debated the authenticity of this supposedly leaked Halo 3 screenshot. Many readers cried "fake" at first glance, but after one enterprising site issued a poll to gauge opinion, 48 percent of nearly 8,000 respondents said it was the "real" deal. Group intelligence, or just wishful thinking?

The image allegedly comes from the September 2005 issue of the recently re-launched Xbox World 360 magazine. In the screenshot, you can make out Master Chief's trusty SMG, as well as a gaping, bloody hole in a reinforced blast door.
