Don't worry about combing through all the wasteful ego-inspired rants. The Gamer's Guide to the Galaxy highlights only the best (and asinine) riffs about gaming from your favorite sites.

This week: Ten videos; Google's evil empire; Full Auto demo; Mario makes headway

The Net Spot

Drop it like it's HAWT

This week, GameSpot released a ho-hum video top-ten segment called "TenSpot. "Come on, guys--would it kill you to put a little imagination into these things?

Not to toot our own horn, but Games.net's Net Ten videos are much, much better.

Ain't it Cool?

Talking about top-ten lists, check out IGN's list of game monkeys. It's a funny read, but otherwise utterly useless.

On the flipside, Cord Smith raises interesting points about gameplay in the latest Full Auto demo on his blog. It's worth a read as it gives a good overview of what to expect out of game demos.

The Future

Music CD sales are clearly tanking, so what's the music industry to do? According to the Miami Herald, game soundtracks could be the industry savior. Um, okay.

Nintendo also recognizes the power of voice in games. A story in Kotaku reveals Nintendo's latest patents in voice technology. Revolution(ary) features?

Progression in technology is never evil--at least, that's according to Google. It seems that Google is eyeing the PSP as a platform to spread free wi-fi in a city near you.

Why?!

Tell me all you know

Is this a theme on GameSpot? This feature story about Doom has plenty of potential. Instead, it was sterile, uninteresting, and ultimately irrelevant.

IGN isn't exempt this week--these guys have been pumping out some truly worthless content. First, the Q&A column about Nintendo's Revolution was utterly devoid of information. Save the back-patting for the bedroom--we don't need to read about it.

Who is to blame for the latest bout of video game recklessness? No, Grand Theft Auto isn't being blamed this time. It's all your fault EA.

All I have to say is, "why?!" Your body doesn't deserve this. Thanks Joystiq.

The Center of the Galaxy

Finally, Mario makes some headway in the universe.
