Feature: Bungie, SOE, and Penny Arcade to Hurricane: Game Over Subscribe to this RSS feed
Hurricane Katrina leaves a trail of devastation, but the video games industry is doing its part to fight the chaos. Here's how you can help.
Bungie, creators of the Halo series, is leading the charge against the crippling effects of Hurricane Katrina, which has devastated states like Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Bungie has unveiled a new t-shirt to help raise money for the hurricane victims. The shirt costs $19.99, with "at least $15" of that money going to the American Red Cross; presumably, the rest will go towards the costs of the t-shirt and the printing process. Bungie pledges that "not a penny profit will be made and every cent of cash will go where it's needed." So in other words, buy the damn thing already.
Buy this shirt. Now.
Bungie is also donating the entirety of their September store profits to the American Red Cross, and is organizing a charity auction towards the end of the month where it'll put rare Halo memorabilia up for bid.
More folks are pitching in. Penny Arcade is auctioning off some original art (which is currently at $3000 and counting), while Sony Online Entertainment has added a /donate command to its online titles.
Great work, guys.
We'll update this page to reflect any other video game companies that are pitching in to help the flood victims. If we're missing anyone, give us a shout in the comments section.
